One day itinerary encompasses four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Swayambhunath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa. Departing at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:00 p.m., the Kathmandu tour combines guided walking and comfortable transfers between the iconic heritage sites.
Swayambhunath Stupa (5th Century)
From Thamel to Swayambhunath Stupa, a 15-minute drive, depending on traffic on the 3 km roads. Head southwest of Thamel to Chhetrapati, turn on Bhagavan Pau Road heading west, crossing the Bishnumati River Bridge. Taking the uphill road that winds up to the base of Swayambhunath with the eastern large staircase of 365 steps for pedestrians only. The car continues to the main vehicle park, the western side. Buy a ticket, enjoy a shorter stair climb to Swayambhu Hill.
Perched atop a verdant hill for over two million years, this primordial symbol of Buddhist cosmology stands as the Kathmandu Valley’s most ancient monument. Beyond commanding panoramic views of Kathmandu and the distant snowcapped Himalayas, the site invites visitors to immerse themselves in sacred stupa, temple, and monastery architecture, enlivened by resident monkeys and devoted monks.
Kathmandu Durbar Square (7th to 18th Century)
A further 13-minute drive brings you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you can explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the Living Goddess Kumari. The complex showcases monuments dating from the 8th to the 18th centuries, alongside the former royal palace museum and the renowned four iconic towers.
Boudhanath Stupa (5th Century)
Embark on a 20-minute drive to Boudhanath Stupa, Nepal's largest stupa, renowned for its magnificent architecture, profound historical significance, encircling prayer wheels, and an array of surrounding monasteries. The site also features a terrace restaurant, offering an ideal vantage point for lunch.
Pashupatinath Temple (5th Century)
At the conclusion of the tour, a short drive from Boudha brought us to Pashupatinath Temple, a venerated Hindu shrine renowned for its rich history and exquisite architecture. Set along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple complex is distinguished by its active cremation ghats, wandering sadhus, revered bulls, and streams of devoted pilgrims. Following the visit, we returned to the hotel.
